As the Mentoring Network of Stark County (MNSC), we advocate for Providers by raising community awareness on mentoring and strive to gain more mentors through our advocacy efforts. We provide a “What is Mentoring” orientation for potential mentors who are then connected to the Stark County mentoring program of their choice. The MNSC also offers support by providing training consultation to Provider organizations and increasing access to background check locations.
History
The MNSC found its origins in a small group of concerned service providers who were looking for solutions to minimize the increasing number of 18 year olds without housing, life skills, and supportive services. They formed the Stark Intra-agency Transition Team (SITT) to identity expanding mentorship opportunities in Stark County to help prepare youth for successful transitions into adult roles and responsibilities. Stark County youth (2005, SITT) have told us that mentors are important toward the guidance, support, and opportunities they need to succeed in life and have asked for more mentor opportunities to be available. SITT took action on this important issue and developed a working committee/collaboration on mentorship that has evolved into the Mentoring Network of Stark County (MNSC), fka Stark County Mentoring Network.
