Early College is an exciting opportunity for Lorain County students beginning ninth grade to participate in a combined high school and college experience with the goal of earning a high school diploma and college associate degree at the same time. Students must be first-generation college students (parents do no have a college degree) and must be entering the ninth grade.
History
The Lorain County Early College High School began in the fall of 2004 with 60 students from Elyria. Today we have more than 270 students with many on their way to completing their associate's degree.
Key Elements
Dual credit classes; college classes beginning in the freshmen year; opportunity to earn up to sixty-two college credits or Associate of Arts degree; Summer Freshman Academy.
Staffing Needs
Spanish teachers, math teachers, and tutors.
Outcomes
First graduating class (Class of 2008) - twenty-eight of the thirty-three seniors graduated with both a high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree; three years of OGT performances at 95% rate or higher for reading, writing and math.
